Dear Miss Joan and Family:

I read very sadly of Mr. Walter's passing. The whole time I was growing up I heard about the other 2 Garvey families in New Orleans to whom we were not related: JJ Garvey The Pickle Man and Joan and Walter who had gone to Loyola with my Dad. I met Evie when I sat across from her at a DG rush party at LSU in 1974, where we looked at each other as if to say-who are you and why are you using my name? I finally had the pleasure of meeting you both and the kids when I attended Chris's and Lauren's wedding as a pseudo-family member. It remains one of the most fun weddings I have ever attended. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, Gerry Garvey, Dick and Pat's daughter.

Evelyn Garvey

I like to remember my Dad tapping his feet and singing along to one of his favorite songs...."Grab your coat, and get your hat...leave your worries on the doorstep....Life can be so sweet...on the Sunny side of the street". He is walking on the white sugary white sands, looking out at that emerald green water of the Gulf lapping at his feet ...as the sun is quietly setting on another vacation day....whistling this tune...no more worries, Dad! We love you!

Dear Garveys
So sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. I have nothing but good memories of Uncle Walter. I always loved when he took us out on his boat. He was so devoted to your mother and to all of you and loved nothing better than being with his family. I know you will miss him but no doubt, he is in a better place. I loved what you wrote, Peggy. I'm sorry I can't make it to the funeral but you all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Christine Zaffater Smith

Everyone loved our Dad. He lived life to the fullest. He spent most of his life doing everything he could to love and to support both his family and his extended family.
After extensive travels with our Mom, he said that, outside of New Orleans, he was surprised to feel most at home in Scotland and Ireland. Of course, after Navarre Beach on Santa Rosa Island in Florida. That was where he loved to be.
Great to imagine him there. Relieved of all his earthly cares and aches and pains. Greeting his old buddy Jesus along with his old friends and relatives as he is welcomed to heaven. Which may well look a lot like his favorite stretch of beach at Navarre. No more worries. It's all smooth sailing from here on in, Dad.
