Dear Griersons, I have many terrific memories of Walt all through my adolescence & early twenties. Great times spent at the beach and 'back country' with both Walt & Joey! (the 50's & 60's) Riding around in his 2seater Tbird.....those were the days:) My Dad & Walt were Volunteer Firemen together in Round Hill. He was a great Eagle Scout and a super fireman too.
Just a great guy! My sincere sympathy & condolences & love.

Dearest Dee and Family:
What a fine man your Dad Walter was. He was handsome beyond any Hollywood standards.
He was also honorable and he had a good sense of humor. I hope YOU, his daughter Dee, and your brother, whom I've never met, know how lucky you are to have a fine father like Walter. He set standards for you all to live by. My own father did that for me, and I'm grateful for it.
I know you will always keep your Dad's loving, beautiful image alive for your kids.
I hope your children understand that their Grandpa, Walter, would never leave them, because he loved them terribly, without reservation, beauteously. Your grandpa wanted them to thrive in their lives! He wanted nothing but the best for them!
It is the saddest thing for me not to be with you all. I used to live in Amenia; it breaks my heart not to be with you and your children, Dee, at this time.
All my love to you. Margaret Swendseid

To Walt's family: Thinking about all of you with sympathy. In times of sorrow, words most needed seem difficult to say. I attented your father's wedding some 49 years ago to the lovely Joey, and now I will be attending his funeral. Walt (also known as Pappy) was a great help to me over the years with his gift of carpentery workmanship. I will miss his jokes and sense of humor. Hoping you will find comfort knowing that warm thoughts and sympathy are with you.

To Walt's family, I was very sad to hear that he passed. I remember him from the time I was a kid when he worked at Strain's gas station, and later on, when he worked for so many years at Central Station with my uncle Bob. Always happy, always smiling, and the two of them always teasing each other. I have many, many fond memories, and I hope he and uncle Bob meet again.
Most Sincerely,
