Warren was a special brother to me. He was eight years older than me and I always thought him to be a giant even after I was grown. He came to cheer me on during basketball and baseball games. He was my first boss, and mentor at Kroger in Staunton. Some time ago, the Daily News Record asked it"s readers to write-in about their hero; and Brother Harry wrote to say that Warren was his hero because of his service to this great country, but also because of what stood for. And, I'd like to say he was my hero also.

Sad that Uncle Warren has left this world but I believe that he is in a better place. Love and kindness was his message - even without words. Will remember him always, Dale Saufley

I knew Warren my entire life and in addition to being "kissin kin" he was a good friend. He will be missed and my sympathies go out to his family and especially Bob, Carl and Owen.

To me, Warren was humble, a man of honor and integrity, with faith in our Lord. He knew he would live eternally in God's presence along with all those who believe that Jesus is Lord. But then how can one thoughtfully not believe God created the universe. It's surreal to grasp the claims of science that there are over a trillion known galaxies. Warren knew it didn't happen with the flip of a switch.
Over the years I have thought about the day (circa 1955) I went to Kroger's in Staunton with my grandmother & grandfather Knicely (Mary and I were dating at the time), and going to the meat counter, it was obvious my grandfather was acquainted with Warren. For some reason, I thought it was so cool' they were acquainted.
Warren was always amiable towards me from our first encounter throughout all the years. I always delighted being in his presence and held him in high esteem. Learning in later years of his military heroism was not a surprise.
There are no words to express my love for the Saufley family - all the wonderful gatherings; visits; ball games in the pasture; Christmas custard, etc.. I felt as much for it as I did my own family.
May God bless the family with confidence that Warren lives, both in our hearts and in the presence of almighty God for that is the only hope we have.
