Wayne Eugene Allen
Urbandale

Wayne Allen, 81, passed away January 7, 2013 at Iowa Methodist in Des Moines. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.

Wayne was born January 22, 1931 in De Soto to Henry Harrison and Ethel Marie Allen. He had two brothers, Robert Lee, who died in a car accident in 1957 at age 23 and a brother, Edward Arthur, who died in the 1930's. He moved to an acreage at age 8, at 57th and Park in Des Moines. Wayne was married on July 31, 1951 to Louise Minnie who died unexpectedly in March of 1957 at the age of 23 leaving behind their four month old daughter, Joyce Marie. After his wife's death he moved in with his parents until his daughter finished high school. He entered the Army on October 24, 1951 at Fort Belford, VA. He went to Tokyo and then to Korea where he spent two years building bridges, roads and airstrips and also worked in demolition. After returning home he spent six years in the Army Reserves. Wayne had many different jobs. He worked the night shift at Penn Dixie, a feed store, mattress store and at Bethel Mission for five years until he retired at the age of 62.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Joyce and special friends, Brian Turner and Jan Stegeman. Memorial contributions may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Des Moines.

I have known Wayne for the last six years. We became friends when I was a Parish Nurse at our church, Faith Lutheran in Clive. I helped Wayne with all of his medical issues and made frequent visits just to see that his needs were being met. Over the years he taught me many things and I grew to love our friendship. I will miss him very much.He is finally at peace with his loved ones. Peace be with you Wayne.I would love to learn more from his family so feel free to contact me at 515-556-5587

Brian Turner

Wayne was a special friend of mine whose faith truly inspired me. He always called me his brother which is about the best compliment I could receive from him. There is no greater witness to the Kingdom of God than the witness Wayne shared with me. Wayne, celebrate your new life with your brothers, mother and wife. May you know nothing but happiness in eternity.

Please accept our deepest sympathies. My daughter and I visited Wayne frequently over the last year. When Wayne was no longer physically able to attend church, my daughter, Sydney and I brought communion to Wayne. He is in our prayers and we will miss him.
