Obituary

Wayne McGowan, 74, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 surrounded by his family. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor I.E. McGowan and Pastor Don Voyles officiating. The family will meet friends on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. Wayne McGowan, 74, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 surrounded by his family. Mr. McGowan was born in Upson County, GA to the late Iva Drew and Evelyn C. McGowan. He was preceded in death by his son, Mike McGowan. He was a graduate of R.E. Lee High School in Thomaston and attended Middle Georgia Technical School. Mr. McGowan was owner operator of Wayne Truck Equipment Company. Wayne was a member of Thomaston Road Baptist church for fifty years where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Director, and Training Union Director. He was a Gideon and coached Ladies Softball and was president of the Lizella Recreation Park. Wayne was a coach for speed skating at Olympia and raced go-carts in the 60's and 70's. He was an auctioneer throughout the state. Wayne was a devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Margaret D. McGowan of Lizella, daughter, Rita (Greg) Armstrong of Macon, granddaughter, Linsey (Freddie) McCranie of Lizella, grandsons, Michael (Brandi) Obenauf and Steven Obenauf, great grandchildren, Cayla, Ashlyn, and Peyton McCranie all of Lizella, Jase Obenauf of Warner Robins, brother, I.E. (Nita) McGowan of Naples, FL and sister, Mary (Chuck) Knight of Thomaston.
