Wayne Joseph O'Brien, 91, passed away on September 13, 2013. Wayne was born in St. Paul, Kansas, January 28, 1922, the eldest of 8 children. The family moved to Tulsa, OK during the depression. He graduated from Marquette High School, served in the Air Force during World War II, attended Tulsa University, moved to Houston from Tulsa in 1948 where he had a successful career in engineering and was a founding member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. After retiring, Wayne enjoyed spending weekends on his farm and serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dime Box, Texas. He is survived by Rose, his devoted...
Wayne Joseph O'Brien, 91, passed away on September 13, 2013. Wayne was born in St. Paul, Kansas, January 28, 1922, the eldest of 8 children. The family moved to Tulsa, OK during the depression. He graduated from Marquette High School, served in the Air Force during World War II, attended Tulsa University, moved to Houston from Tulsa in 1948 where he had a successful career in engineering and was a founding member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. After retiring, Wayne enjoyed spending weekends on his farm and serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dime Box, Texas.
He is survived by Rose, his devoted wife of 68 years, their 9 children: Mike (Mary Frances), Bill (Linda), Marty Freeman (Danny), Dennis (Carol), Jim (Barbara), David (fiancée, Nancy), Tim (Jean), Nancy Newton (Ken) and Mary Anne Schmitt (Tim); 18 grandchildren and his 13 precious great grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be held at Waltrip Funeral Directors from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2013. The vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m.. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc in Houston on September 17 at 10:30. Burial will be at a later date in Dime Box, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Society of St Vincent de Paul, 2403 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77021.
