Wendy H. Agar
1951 – 2012
With her family by her side, Wendy Harriet Agar passed away on Friday, July 6, 2012 at LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ontario.
Wendy was born on April 21, 1951 in Fort Frances, ON to Harry and Dorreen Kitzul. She attended Robert Moore School and Fort Frances High School graduating in 1969. She then attended Rainy River Community College, University of Wisconsin – Superior, the University of Windsor, and Waterloo Lutheran University graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her love of reading and books then took her to the University of Toronto where she earned a Master's of Library Science degree in 1975.
Beginning in 1974, Wendy was employed by the Saint John Regional Library in Saint John, NB. She was employed as a childrens' librarian at the East Branch Library. She loved reading to children of all ages but especially those just beginning to enjoy story books. Later in her career she taught reading and writing skills to young adults in the Futures Program in Fort Frances. She also worked as a librarian at Huffman School in Fort Frances.
Wendy wed Douglas Agar on July 14, 1973 at Knox United Church. This began their adventure together. They lived in Saint John, NB and traveled extensively throughout eastern Canada. Both of their children were born in Saint John. After leaving Saint John, they moved to Lac La Croix, ON and lived there for most of four years. They returned to live in Fort Frances in 1987 and lived and worked here until 2005 when they moved to Winder, Georgia. Thus began their great Georgia experience. Wendy and Buzz returned to Fort Frances in 2008 where they have lived since.
Wendy was a healthy and robust person until a medical event occurred in 1991which produced Short Bowel Syndrome. However, this did not slow her down and she continued to carry on a near normal lifestyle. She loved curling and watching curling on TV. Her Georgia experience expanded her appreciation of college football, basketball, and baseball. She loved attending live sporting events. Her first love, however, was reading. Fiction was her genre. She was extremely gratified when her love of reading was passed on to her two daughters.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 39 years Douglas, her daughters Kelly (Andrew) of Winnipeg, MB, Alison of Toronto, ON, her precious grandson Bennett, her mother Dorreen, her brother Gordon (Heather) and nephew Patrick of Wimberley, TX and sister-in-law Jayne Agar of Thunder Bay, ON. She was predeceased by her father Harry in 2004.
The family would like to thank Dr. C. Moorhouse and Dr. J. Allard for their attentive care throughout her 21 years of medical need.
Funeral services were held at St. John's Anglican Church in Fort Frances, ON on Tuesday, July10, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wendy's memory may be made to Kidney Foundation of Ontario, 605 Hewitson Street, Thunder Bay, ON P7B 5V5 or St. John's Anglican Church Memorial Fund. Please, no flowers.

Dear Doug, Ali and Kelly,
I was so sad to hear about Wendy. In my nursing career I have met some wonderful families and, I must say, your family is one of the top families on my list of wonderfuls. I have many memories of your family from the 5D/6A days and feel fortunate that I have been able to continue to hear of your families news when seeing Wendy at many of Ali's various performances over the years. She will be greatly missed as she touched many lives. My thoughts are with you all.

Doug, Kelly & Alison,
So sorry to hear (via Bonnie O'Brien) about Wendy's passing. Although I haven't kept in touch because I'm the world's worst letter writer, I often think about Wendy when another Meals-on-Wheels anniversary (35 this year) comes around since she got us started doing it. My prayers are with all of you.
