Wesley Allen Edwards, 77, of Crescent Hill, Louisville, Ky, died Saturday, May 10 at the In-Patient Hosparus unit at Norton Hospital following a brief illness. Born March 29, 1937, in Tailferro County, GA, Wesley left rural Georgia to attend Young Harris College and Macon University. Following a call to ministry and his love for children, he came to Louisville to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. While at Southern, he enlisted in the Army in 1962, serving as a chaplain's assistant at Fort Hood, Texas. Wesley Allen Edwards, 77, of Crescent Hill, Louisville, Ky, died Saturday, May 10 at the In-Patient Hosparus unit at Norton Hospital following a brief illness. Born March 29, 1937, in Tailferro County, GA, Wesley left rural Georgia to attend Young Harris College and Macon University. Following a call to ministry and his love for children, he came to Louisville to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. While at Southern, he enlisted in the Army in 1962, serving as a chaplain's assistant at Fort Hood, Texas. During his tenure in the Army, he met and married Carol Anne Platt of Stratford, CT, in 1963. Wesley & Carol Anne returned to Louisville where he finished his seminary degree. Finding his true calling in teaching, Wesley then pursued a Masters in Education from University of Louisville. Wesley taught school for 39 years, three years in Bullitt County, then Social Studies and Language Arts in the Jefferson County Public School system for 36 years, 30 of those at Barret Middle School. Wesley found great joy in observing nature, taking photographs, writing poetry, and spontaneously dancing a jig.

Wesley was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church for over 40 years where he served as Preschool Children's Minister for seven years and then taught kindergarten Sunday School for over 20 years. Since 2009, he has been an active member of Highland Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.

Preceding him in death were his were parents Guss Arnie and Hazel Denard Edwards, and his brother, Charles Judson Edwards. Wesley is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Anne Edwards, his son, Lyle Edwards, former daughter-in-law Tara Young Edwards, his daughter Mary Oldaker (Erick), and his grandchildren Jonathan, Callen, Brennan, Joshua and Kathryn.

Visitation for Wesley will be at Friday May 16 at Arch L. Heady and Son - Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave, Louisville, KY 40206, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM.

A memorial service will be held in Wesley's honor on Saturday May 17 at Highland Baptist Church, 1101 Cherokee Road, Louisville KY 40204, at 2:00 PM.
A reception will be held at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts may be made to Uspiritus – Brooklawn, 3121 Brooklawn Campus Dr, Louisville, Ky, 40218, or to Hosparus – Hospice of Louisville, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Dr, Louisville, Ky 40205.
