Wesley Edward Godwin, Jr. died Wednesday, August 15 in Atlanta at age 70. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eileen Filocco Godwin; their children, Christopher Godwin of Franklin, Tenn., and Leigh-Ann Godwin Mueller of Charlotte, N.C.; his sister, Andrea Godwin Overby of Franklin, Tenn.; and his brother, Alan E. Godwin of Hendersonville, Tenn. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jenna Ann Mueller, Chase Jeffrey Mueller, Meryl Louise Godwin, Brooks Wesley Godwin and Hollis Jane Godwin. Wesley Edward Godwin, Jr. died Wednesday, August 15 in Atlanta at age 70.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eileen Filocco Godwin; their children, Christopher Godwin of Franklin, Tenn., and Leigh-Ann Godwin Mueller of Charlotte, N.C.; his sister, Andrea Godwin Overby of Franklin, Tenn.; and his brother, Alan E. Godwin of Hendersonville, Tenn. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jenna Ann Mueller, Chase Jeffrey Mueller, Meryl Louise Godwin, Brooks Wesley Godwin and Hollis Jane Godwin.

Wes was born in Jackson, MS in 1942 and graduated from Ole Miss. While at Ole Miss, he was named a Distinguished Military Graduate, chosen for membership in Omicron Delta Kappa, and elected president of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He graduated with a BBA degree in banking and finance.

After graduation, he served two years active duty as a U.S. Army infantry officer at Ft. Rucker, Ala., and four years in the Army reserves.

After his service at Ft. Rucker, Wes moved to Atlanta. He earned an MBA degree in finance from the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.

In Atlanta, Wes went to work for First National Bank of Atlanta, now Wells Fargo Bank, where he helped organize and administer the commercial officer program. While at First Atlanta, he recruited extensively for the bank at major colleges and universities throughout the Southeast.

Wes was a founder and partner with Professional Advisory Resources LLC and PPA Investments where he was a Certified Financial Planner.

He served on the board of the Georgia Society of the Institute of Certified Planners and is past president and chairman of the Board of International Association of Financial Planning, Georgia chapter.

Wes was a great fan of the outdoors and enjoyed biking and long distance running for many years. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying history. He possessed a variety of talents, as exhibited by his membership in barbershop quartets and participation in performances around the country.

Services will be at Roswell Funeral Home, Roswell, GA at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 18. In lieu of flowers memorials should go to Wounded Warrior Project.
