Wilford Emil Maples Okemos, Michigan Age 84, passed away on June 26, 2014. Will (a.k.a. Bill) was born to Johanna (Geyer) and Wilford Maples on April 3, 1930. He was raised in the Detroit area. He graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1948 and continued on to graduate from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in 1952 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He spent his career working for Star Cutter and Illinois Tool Works. Will served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955. In 1955 he married Birdie Jean Rutherford, who survives him. Age 84, passed away on June 26, 2014. Will (a.k.a. Bill) was born to Johanna (Geyer) and Wilford Maples on April 3, 1930. He was raised in the Detroit area. He graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1948 and continued on to graduate from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in 1952 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He spent his career working for Star Cutter and Illinois Tool Works. Will served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955.

In 1955 he married Birdie Jean Rutherford, who survives him.
Will was a very active father, involved in little league, Boy Scouts and all the children's activities.
He served as Senior Warden of both, Trinity Episcopal Church in Farmington Hills, MI and All Saints Episcopal Church in East Lansing, MI. He and Jean are also avid Michigan State University football fans, having held season tickets for over 40 years.
In his senior years he and Jean enjoyed time with their children and grandchildren, their church friends and activities and season tickets to the Wharton Center.

Will is survived by his wife Birdie Jean, sons; David (Laura), Robert (Debbie), daughter, Katherine (John) Mangiola, sons; James (Penny), Paul (Kim); grandchildren, Lauren,
Heather (David) Boyd, Jason (Tasha), Sarah, Jean Marie, Jack, Sam and Emma Rose; great-grandchildren, Jasik and Adalei; sisters, Glenda Dolphin (Gerry) and Helena Miller (Brooke); cousins, Bill, Fred and Cathy (Burrill) Scharmann.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5 from 4-8 PM, Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI 48823 (517) 337-9745.
The memorial will be held on Sunday, July 6 at 2PM, All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823 (517) 351-7160, with visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to All Saints Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
