Willa Mae Abercrombie (Strickland) passed away into Glory January 25, 2012 on Wednesday evening, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 24, 1928 in Lamont, Oklahoma to Pauline and Edgar Strickland. Willa was a graduate of Crescent High School in 1946. She then graduated from Central State College in 1950 and took Post Graduate courses at Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford.
On April 28, 1952, she married Carl Ben Abercrombie, who preceded her in death on January 17, 2003 after 52 years of marriage. She taught in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado where she and Ben taught and ranched in Lamar, Colorado before returning to Crescent in 1977. Willa taught school for over 30 years and continued to educate students by giving piano lessons and tutoring when she retired. She used her talent in music for the Lord, playing organ and piano in every church that she was a member of over the years. She was an avid animal lover. She enjoyed cooking and was never happier than when all the family came together to eat and fellowship.
She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter Janet, Bill and Alyssa Fisher of Edmond as well as by her son Roger Abercrombie of Crescent and his daughters Rebecca and Rhema. Also, her sister Della and brother-in-law John Schwartz of Edmond, and many beloved nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own children.
The family appreciates the wonderful care provided Crossroads Hospice, the doctors and staff at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital and the kind staff at Mercy Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00am, Monday, January 30, 2012 at Baggerley Funeral Home with interment at Mound Valley Cemetery in Thomas, Oklahoma at 2:30pm.
