I was blessed to be a classmate of Bill's for our 4 years at Concordia, Seward, Nebraska. He was a great guy then and remained so. Bill was a gift from God to his family and all who came into contact with him. We thank God for Bill and his life of love and service.

Bill was my favorite teacher in high school so many years ago in New York. We also played church league basketball together for a couple of years. He was a SUPER guy and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mr, Allmen was a great math teacher, I had him for both calculus and computer science my senior year. I was working full time at night and Mr. Allmen picked up that my first period calc class was really hard for me (the only calc class at Buena that year was first period) and he reached out and asked me why I so "on fire" for computer science but "dog-tired" in math. I told him I was working at night and he would let me come in during my work experience to work on Calculus with the other brianiac kids. (ha, ha).. My love of math and the kick I got out of computers IN HIS CLASS helped lead me into my career. I worked at Microsoft for almost 20 years and still continue to work in IT today. I wouldn't have that "on-fire" desire I had for computers and software if it wasn't for Mr. Allmen. God now has a great math teacher on his team in heaven!!! - Kathy Elskamp (Kathy Massa - Graduate 1981)

Bill was a gifted teacher and mentor. He was the best math teacher and was always encouraging his students. I was lucky enough to have him for geometry and computer science while I was at Buena and had the good fortune to be have him as a colleague after I graduated from college.

Bill will be greatly missed.

I had Mr. Allmen in the early days of using PCs in class (remember the Apple IIe?). He was always enthusiastic and prepared. However, the thing that I remember most about Mr. Allman was that decades later, we met up during a bike ride and I told him I was an engineer working with communication systems, and he remembered a program I wrote in his class to plot conic sections! My condolences to his family and friends for their loss, but know that his memory lives on. BHS class of 1981.

Bill was the proverbial "All-American" college student. It was my privilege to have him in my circle of friends. Bill was our Class President of the Class of 1963 at Concordia Teachers' College in Seward, NE. We will miss him at our Golden Anniversary Reunion this May--2013. Our sincere condolences to the entire Allmen Family. God bless you all and give you His loving peace. Sincerely in Christ, Ron and Elaine (Hummel) Royuk

To the Family of Bill Allmen, 8/25/2012

Hello, first of all I would like to tell you I am sorry for your loss. I know almost nothing I can say will make the pain of this loss go away, but I will try to share with you some of the impact Bill had that you, he may not even have known about.

I enjoyed surfing, soccer, and skating too much to reach my highest potential in his calculus class. This annoyed him a bit, he always told me “With your talent, you should be finding this class incredibly easy. In fact one day when a buddy Dean Owens and I gave him an Easter present, a series of Easter egg related calculus problems, hoping he would gift us a few extra points, he laughed and then got real serious. He told me, “If I don't get serious about what I am doing, I would never amount to anything. “ He knew I was not planning on college; I wasn't really planning on anything. He knew I need a swift kick to get me started.

I accepted the challenge, great teachers are never surprised when their students do, so I am sure he was not surprised in the least. In 4 years I came back to tell him that I had received a BS in Mathematics, he was thrilled and encouraging. I did not see him until 7 years later at an awards banquet for teaching and he was on the other side of the room. I wondered if he remembered me as I was receiving the award, but failed to make it over to talk to him that night. I have now been teaching for 21 years. I am a Calculus and Computer Science teachers at Santa Barbara High School. Bill's challenge has a lot to do with why I am here.

I tell you this because, you probably have not heard of me or thousands of individuals that Bill has touched over the years. It is important that the ones close know that Bill truly made an impact here, and now God has decided that he has run the good race. He fought the good fight, and most of all his work here is done. It is now time for him to hang out with Jesus. In the mean time while we wait to join him in heaven, we will try to run the good race.

I have a list, a list of heroes. I started it when a gentleman named Richie Berman passed away. This list includes men and women who in my career have mentored me, empowered me, and inspired me to try to make this world a better place. Today I add William Allmen to that list. Not because of the difference he made in my life, but for the difference he made in this world. He managed to educate the top 100 to 180 students each year at BHS. Most of these characters, have gone on to be contributing members of society, some like me a teacher, others like Mia a classmate of mine who saves lives daily with her surgical skills.

He will be missed, but his passion for life lives on in those he trained and left behind.

Best Wishes,

Richard Johnston

I just want to say that Mr. Allmen was a great person and very successful teacher. I remember other classmates in other math classes always complaining about their math teachers. I never felt that way. Mr. Allmen always taught us respectfully and if we didn't understand he would explain it again. Geometry H and Calculus AP were my most favorite classes at Buena because of him. I am so glad to have experienced his class with so many of my friends. My sympathy goes to his family and I am sure that he will be missed greatly by all that have known him. God Bless your family ! and thank you for sharing him with us : )

During my high school and middle school years, I tended to find my math classes mildly interesting. But there were two years when I thought my math classes were not just mildly interesting, but absolutely fascinating and wonderful. Those were the two years when I was lucky enough to study Geometry and Calculus with Mr. Allmen. Truly, he was an amazing teacher. I remember him very fondly not just for the way he inspired me to love math, but for the sense of humor and calm demeanor that he brought to the classroom. I am very sorry to hear of his loss. -Class of 1993.

I am but one of countless students that Mr. Allmen has greatly influenced, and I credit my successful career in engineering in part to him. In class he would put up with our good natured pranks - there was mutual respect and fondness that was precious. But I think one encounter with him will stick in my mind forever. As an avid cyclist, I used to ride the "Sea to Summit" event from Ventura to Mt Pinos, one of the toughest rides I've ever done. One year I came home from college to ride it and about 40 miles into it, I came across Mr Allmen pedaling along. It was a pleasant surprise, but unfortunately we didn't stay together long. I still regret not getting to know him better on a personal level given our common interests. So often we don't really get to know the teachers we spend so much time with. I am saddened by the loss. Class of 85.

I sometimes do outreach and recruiting events for Mechanical Engineering at Ohio State.  Each presentation I get the question, "What made you go into engineering?".  My answer.."My high school calculus teacher." I don't think he ever knew how he basically formed my entire future.

I remember Bill when he was "Billy," a childhood playmate. I watched "Flash Gordon" at his house. I have remembered his birthday every year, but it is more important that his name is written in heaven, and that is the assurance we have for Jesus' sake. Our condolences to all the family.

Christie & Family,
It was with sadness that I read the note of Bill's loss to cancer. Yet there is great joy in knowing that he is now with his Lord and Savior, and as you said, now there is no more pain for him. I always enjoyed being with Bill and his entire family those years that I served at St. John's Lutheran School as principal.

Our love to you and the Allmen family,

I had Mr. Allmen for Calculus AP at Buena High. I remember when a bike accident put his arm in a sling. He was so devoted to prepare us for the AP test, that he would take the sling off and work sample problems on the overhead, while in pain. I will always remember his gentle disposition and great dedication to teaching.

In 75 our houses were completed and our families are still there...my childhood was helped shaped by that cul-de-sac, his two sons, and the other neighborhood kids. Probably because we first met when I was 2 Mr Allmen was always larger than life and intmidating. His height, stature continued to intmidate me in Caluculus...something I'm certain he passed on to Keith :)
