William "Bill" Franklin Caddell, Jr. of Raleigh, lost his courageous battle with lung cancer on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Rex Hospital. Bill was born in Moore County, NC in 1931. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Caddell, Sr. Bill attended North Carolina State University graduating in 1953. After graduating he went into the United States Army until he returned to Raleigh to begin his career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He retired with 30 years of service. William "Bill" Franklin Caddell, Jr. of Raleigh, lost his courageous battle with lung cancer on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Rex Hospital.

Bill was born in Moore County, NC in 1931. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Caddell, Sr. Bill attended North Carolina State University graduating in 1953. After graduating he went into the United States Army until he returned to Raleigh to begin his career with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He retired with 30 years of service. While working, he received many commendations: one of which was The Long Leaf Pine awarded to him by Governor Hunt upon his retirement from the DOT in 1983.

Bill enjoyed lots of time with the Boy Scouts. He led an Explorer troop to Philmont, NM and later joined his grandson's troop on many occasions. He was involved in The Capital City Civitan Club where he was the President from 1968 – 1969, and awarded Civitan of the Year in 1965 – 1966.

"Pop-Pop" as he was lovingly called, was the proud grandfather of Edward "Ward" P. Currin and Ashleigh "Trent" Currin and most recently his great-granddaughter Madden Anne Currin. Being a grandparent was the biggest joy of his life and they are very grateful for that!

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Marie Trent Caddell, children William Franklin Caddell, III (Katie) and Anne Trent Caddell Currin (Ed), Grandchildren: Ward Currin (Tucker), Trent Currin (Ben), Great-Granddaughter : Madden Anne Currin, sister Flo Hollister, brother Jim (Nancy) Caddell, many nieces and nephews that he loved along with many cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Earl McDonald Caddell.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 2:30pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Officiating by Rev. Mac Schafer. The burial to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family wants to thank all the doctors and nurses of the Cancer Center of North Carolina and the oncology floor at Rex Hospital that cared for our Dad/Pop-Pop especially Dr. Agrawal and Dr. Yoffe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the , 8300 Health Park # 10, Raleigh, NC 27615 or Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4921 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
