William B. Easter passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013. Mr. Easter was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1926. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and served in the European and Pacific theatres until 1946. He attended college in Alabama and California and was then employed by the General Dynamic Company in the development of guided missiles for the Navy Department in San Diego, California. Mr. Easter went to the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico in 1953 involved in the missile and rocket programs of the U.S. Army. William B. Easter passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2013. Mr. Easter was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1926. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and served in the European and Pacific theatres until 1946.
He attended college in Alabama and California and was then employed by the General Dynamic Company in the development of guided missiles for the Navy Department in San Diego, California.
Mr. Easter went to the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico in 1953 involved in the missile and rocket programs of the U.S. Army.
In 1960, he was chosen to head the White Sands Liaison Office at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., concerned with the budget, the staffing and the ongoing and future role and mission of the Range.
In 1962, he left the Department of Defense to become the NASA manager of the Tracking and Data Office in Houston, Texas, responsible for the information systems between the flight crews and the Mission Control Center.
In 1980, Mr. Easter was appointed manager of the NASA West Coast Activities Office with offices in Los Angeles and the Vandenberg Air Force Base at Lompoc, California. This office was responsible for integration of the Air Force mission to utilize the Space Shuttle whereby the Air Force personnel were to be integrated into the NASA Flight Program, Engineering and Operation.
In 1965, Mr. Easter helped found the Dorado Corporation in Houston, Texas. The company was involved in the development and management of apartments, shopping centers, and office buildings. He formed an in-house management company to manage the company's portfolio.
In 1983, Mr. Easter relocated in Wilmington, North Carolina, and became active in development in that area. His last venture is a condo project in Durham, North Carolina. Mr. Easter resided in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay Easter and Henrietta Myers Easter; brothers, J.D. Easter and Hansell Easter; sisters, Margaret Matheson and Louise Easter. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Taylor Easter; daughter, Terri Richter; grandchildren, Maryn Richter and Mayan Huntley; niece, Margaret Tucker and husband Stephen; caregivers, Peggy Slight and Shirley Herring, and numerous other friends and family.
A visitation will be Friday, April 12, 2013 from 4PM to 6 PM at Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel. A funeral service will be Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
