Bill graduated from Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts and was a restoration carpenter. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a Staff Sergeant with the US Air Force from 1953-1960 during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Blodgett who he married on December 26, 1992.
He is also survived by his children, Daniel E. Blodgett and wife, Shannon, of Spotsylvania and Elizabeth R. Blodgett of Portland, CT; Mary Anne's children, Gretchen Hazard of Timberville, Lorraine Galloway of Savannah, GA, Carmel Hazard of Great Falls, and Heidi Harrison of Alexandria; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy MacPartland of Winter Haven, FL, and a brother, Alan Blodgett of Chelmsford, MA.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Maura Lynn Gildea in 2008.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Joseph Goldsmith officiating.
Bill always had a smile, a cup of coffee and Zoe by his side; he said he had a rich life. He was as generous in death as he was in life. His wish was to donate his body to science, the Anatomy Gifts Registry, in Hanover, MD will be handling those arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Rockingham Memorial Hospital, c/o RMH Foundation, Cardio Care Center, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

The world is a less friendly place now that Bill has left us, it will be our Bill-filled challenge to fill that void with what he taught us. We will take with us his easy smile, open heart and generous spirit. Sam and Bill's shared birthdays will be with us always. Thank you Bill, we will miss you. Much love to all of Bill's stretched and extended family. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.

Dan, So sorry to hear about Bill. Thank you for calling to me know. This morning as I look over at your old home on Beachmont Ave I thought of your family, Maura making cookies for our family , Dan & Peter always getting into trouble, camping at Ravenswood. My deepest sympathies to all of Bill's family. He was a wonderful person. We will miss him dearly. I remember when I first met him. Grampy told me if I was going to be part of the family I had better learn how to eat, cause this family liked to eat. Rest in peace Grampy.

I am deeply sorry to read of Bill's passing. As young boys Bill and I played together and our parents were good friends while we all lived in Groton Mass. Although we have not kept close touch over the years we have visited together a couple of times during the last few years. My sympathies go to his family and friends.
