William "Willie" Arthur Hanson, age 77, passed away June 7 at Cornerstone Hospital in Round Rock, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home , 211 W. Ave B in Copperas Cove. Funeral services will be in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 16th, followed by burial at the Copperas Cove City Cemetery at 405 E. Avenue A.
He was born September 9, 1939 in Madison, Wisconsin to Russell D. Hanson and Adeline Hanson. In November 1963 William married Margaret Russell in Detroit, Michigan. They were married 20 years until her passing in February 1983. William remarried on June 4, 1988 to Wanda Maness. They were married for 29 years.
William served 20 years in the United States Army as a reservist and active duty before retiring in April 1980 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service he traveled around the world including serving in Vietnam and earned several commendation for his service. He then went on to work for DOL Maintenance at Fort Hood, Texas in the Component Repair Department. He retired from DOL in March of 2009. Willie had a passion for fighting fires and served the community of Copperas Cove for many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Copperas Cove Fire Department.
William is survived by his current wife Wanda (Maness) Hanson of Copperas Cove, son William Hanson II of Fort Collins, Colorado, daughter Geah Hanson of Copperas Cove, brother Donald Hanson of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, brother James Marshall of Waterloo, Wisconsin, brother Glenn Marshall of Waterloo, Wisconsin, sister Geah Marshall of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and granddaughter Kamia Hanson of Fort Collins, Colorado as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret Hanson, father Russell D. Hanson, mother Adeline Marshall and brother Rodney Hanson.

Uncle Willie was a one of a kind. His smile was contagious and he always made us laugh. I guess he and Rodney will be having fun without all of us bothering them for a while. Wanda and Geah, take care and know we love you. Our prayers are with you at this difficult time.
