The Rev. Dr. William R. Wooten, Jr.
On Wednesday, January 1, 2014, The Rev. Dr. William R. Wooten, Jr. (80), of Ormond Beach, FL, went to be with the Lord after a long illness. He was born in Richmond, VA, May 12, 1933. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Sara Lee (Sally) Mellon, as son, Christopher (Lisa) and daughter, Judy Samuels. Also, he leaves grandchildren Mitchell, Victoria, Mason and Julia Wooten, Sara and Nicole Samuels.
Bill graduated from the University of Richmond where he became Phi Beta Kappa. From there he went to Virginia Theological Seminary where he attained his Masters and Doctor of Ministries degrees. He served at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Richmond, VA; Grace Episcopal Church, Silver Spring, MD (32 yrs); St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Palm Coast, FL and St. James Episcopal Church, Ormond Beach, FL. He had a passion for serving parochial schools throughout his ministry. He enjoyed sports of all kinds and bowled in the Silver Spring Inter Church league for many years. He was an avid model train collector and belonged to the TCA. He was a member of the Terrapin Club at the University of Maryland and the Silver Spring Rotary Club.
A memorial service, Celebration of Life, will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014, 2 PM, at St. James Episcopal Church, Ormond Beach, FL. Memorial donations may be made to Grace Episcopal Church Education Endowment Fund, 1607 Grace Church Rd., Silver Spring, MD 20910.
