Brown, William (Bill) Wahl, age 82, of East Cobb passed away on Sunday, January 7. He was born in 1935 in Barnesville, Ohio, to George and Rosalia Brown. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol, three children: Tim Brown, Kathleen Peneguy, and Cindy Brown, Aunt Clara Wahl, sister Marianne Heckman, and brother-in-law Robert Swab. Survivors also include a son-in-law Todd Peneguy, and three grandchildren: Catherine Brown, Emma Peneguy, and Luke Peneguy. Bill also leaves two nephews and five nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Helen Swab, and a grandson William Stewart Brown.
Bill grew up on a small farm. His family had no electricity or indoor plumbing until he was eleven or a telephone until he was twenty-six. His primary schooling was in a one-room schoolhouse. Despite this, Bill was able to adapt and "thrive where planted." He was, after all, a farmer. He was valedictorian of his high school class and attended The Ohio State University on a Navy ROTC scholarship. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering and he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Muliphen (AKA-61). Upon completing his active Navy service, he worked for Westinghouse Electric Company in Pittsburgh, PA and earned his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. During this time, he was awarded five patents.
In 1982, Bill moved his family to Marietta where he worked for INPO as a safety analyst. After retiring in 2004, he began a second career volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, enjoying his grandchildren, and helping his many friends by repairing their broken items.
Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 PM Wednesday, January 10 at H.M. Patterson & Sons Canton Hill Chapel in Marietta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 11, at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, reception to follow in the social hall. Bill will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 12.
Donations to Unbound or Habitat for Humanity will be gratefully accepted.

Dear Carol and family: My deepest condolences on the occasion of Bill's passing. I was very fortunate to have him work in my group at INPO. His incredible knowledge of nuclear safety requirements and his ability to clearly convey complex notions are among the things I cherished about him. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
