Peoria, IL - The Adams family sadly announces the death of William Robert "Bill" Adams. He died at Heartland Care Center of Peoria on Saturday, December 7, 2013, where he had been living for the past two years, at the age of 88.

Bill was born in Peoria, June 16, 1925 to Ann (Zimmerman) and Virgil Adams. He was their only child.

Bill graduated from Woodruff High School. On July 29, 1944 Bill married the love of his life, Florence E. "Flossie" Castle. She preceded him in death, March 23 of this year, also at Heartland Care Center.

During World War II, Bill served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st class. He was stationed at the Navy Supply Depot in Hawthorn, Nevada.

When Bill was a junior in High School, he started working as an usher at the Madison Theater. After the war, Bill returned to the theater and was Theater Manager from 1943 to 1959. In 1960 Bill became a Sales Manager at WEEK-TV. He eventually became President and General Manager of the station. Bill retired as President of Mid-America Television and LDX Broadcast, Inc. in 1985.

After his retirement Bill began writing a column for the Peoria Journal Star, entitled "Yester Days.” He ended each column with the tag line “…and it seems like only yesterday.” He wrote hundreds of columns before retiring in 2006. During the writing of his column, Bill published 3 books, covering his early 1990 columns. His 4th and final book was titled "The Shelton Gang: They Played In Peoria."

Bill and Flossie had 5 children, Kimberly Adams (John) Post, Kerry Adams (Doug White), Lesa (Jeff) Collier, William Robert "Rob" (Tammy) Adams II, and Bradley (Barb) Adams. He was the beloved grandfather of 10 grandchildren, John Post, Cameron (Niki) Post, Timothy White, Kenneth White, Justin Myles, Corey Collier, Evan Adams, Hailey Adams, Jordan Adams, Jeremy Adams, and four step-grandchildren, Justin (Shana) Moody, Chance Moody, Victoria Moore, and James Bray, Jr. Bill was the great-grandfather of 5 great-grandchildren, John "J.P." Post, Victoria Post, Jamal Myles, Riley Myles, Niveah Myles, and 3 step great-grandchildren, Bellamy Bray, Madalyn Moore, and Kaitlyn Moore.

Bill and Flossie were founding members of Holy Family Parish. They, along with former Peoria Mayor Jim Maloof and his wife Trudy, were instrumental in the inception of the St. Jude Telethon, when Bill was the President and General Manager of WEEK-TV.

Bill was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and the "Liars Club," an informal group of Peoria businessmen.

Bill will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will always remember him with love and affection.

Services for Bill Adams will take place at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria on Tuesday, December 10 with visitation from 12 to 2 p.m. and funeral services at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
