Lt. Col. William Luther Adden, USAF (ret.), 90, passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013. A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors. Colonel Adden served his country as a pilot and flew in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. After 30 years of service, he retired to Montgomery with his first wife of 34 years, Pearle Gerald Adden who died in 1978. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Hazel Huntley Adden of Chesterfield, SC who died in September 2012. Colonel Adden was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Augusta Watson, Sara Elizabeth Tumblin, and Henrietta Roberta Charles. He is survived by four daughters, Dana Ball, Marcia Parker (William Marion Parker, III), Terry Renwick (William Renwick), Amy Shanks (Stephen Shanks); stepson, David Huntley (Amy Huntley); nine grandchildren: Kenneth Ball (Deresa), Courtney Walker, Kristen Hurst (Brian), Clifford Branch, Jr. (Kim), Leslie Chapman (Harley), Robert Renwick (Kirkley), Matthew Shanks, Kendall Shanks, and Sydney Shanks; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Colonel Adden was a wonderful father and grandfather, and served proudly his Lord and country. He was very active in Chesterfield Baptist Church in Chesterfield, SC and also served as mayor of Chesterfield shortly after his marriage to Hazel Huntley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Chesterfield Baptist Church, 207 East Main Street, Chesterfield, SC 29709 in memory of Lt. Col. William Luther Adden.
