William Howard "Tompsy" Browning, 87, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru. He was born April 10, 1923, to Clarence Edward and Almer Langford Browning. He was a member of Bethany Primitive Baptist Church. He owned and operated a country grocery store and was a farmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving on the USS Wyoming.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Pontotoc with Elder Larry Wise and Elder Roger Browning officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by two brothers, Gene (Catherine) Browning of New Albany and Leighton Browning of Lone Star; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dowdy Browning; his parents; and three sisters, Eunice Duncan, Grace Wray and Nona Fooshee.
Pallbearers are Terry Wise, Larry Williams, Billy Matkins, Marty Swords, Mickey Swords, Brian Browning and Larry Wood.
Arrangements under the direction of Browning Funeral Home, Pontotoc, MS.
