William Buchanan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 16, 2012.

William E. Buchanan, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, PA, died comfortably at home with his family on November 13 from complications of cancer. He was in his 88th year.
Born in Ocean City, NJ, on August 6, 1925. He served in US Army Air Forces during WWII. Bill graduated from Iowa State University. He was a 50-year resident of Stamford, CT where he retired as the Controller for the City of Stamford, CT in 1990.
Bill enjoyed camping and traveled extensively with his family, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries. Bill's proudest achievement was raising his four daughters, inspiring them with confidence and a life-long you-can-do anything attitude.
Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Regina V. Buchanan and his four daughters, Jeaneen Buchanan of Shelton, CT, Cheryl Rogers of Vineyard Haven, MA, Deborah Blakeslee of Lewisberry, PA, and Elizabeth Pendergist of Dillsburg, PA and their husbands. He is also survived by one brother, Albert Buchanan of Arizona, and 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, at 11 AM, at Messiah Village Chapel, Mechanicsburg, PA, with Deacon David Hall officiating. We will always remember his warm smile and hairy dog stories. He will be missed!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Central PA or St. Jude's Children Hospital.

My condolences to the Buchanan family. I knew Bill through the Roasters Club. He was not a watcher in life, he was a doer, always quick to offer his help. His efforts were essential to our success, and his sense of humor invaluable. May he rest in peace.

Beth and family,
A sad loss, one felt by many who shared Bill with all of you. It was always a pleasure dealing with him, both as a reporter and an official, and as a friend at the Ponus Y.C.

To all the Buchanan family, I am sorry for your loss. I remember Bill from my early days as an Acolyte at Church of the Good Shepard and Church of the Advent. Bill was a great help to me when I started working for the city almost 24 years ago. Although I had not seen him in several years I join you in missing him.

The Rev. Mark Kirkland

I worked for Bill in the Controllers Office at the City of Stamford, he was a true gentleman. He also introduced me to Continuing Anglicanism, when I had become disgruntled with United Methodism. It is because of him, that I am an orthodox christian, and a permanent deacon. My sympathies go out to his wife and children. May he rest in peace. Amen.
