William Charles Dunbar (Bill), of Columbus, Ohio and for the past 34 years Hudson, MA journeyed peacefully to the next life on Tuesday, June 24th, 2014, lovingly surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Shelby; daughter, Robin and her husband Peter Bennett; son Erik and his wife Berenice Juarez; grandchildren Nicole Elizabeth, Jacob William, and Jonovan Paul; mother-in-law Shirley Carroll; sister-in-law Edith Nealeigh; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marcia and Keith Schultz; Jeffrey and Rhonda Schultz, Kaylee and Brody; Allyson Schultz; Jack, Brendan and Ashlynn Carroll, Heather and Kaitie; and friends who were special to...
William Charles Dunbar (Bill), of Columbus, Ohio and for the past 34 years Hudson, MA journeyed peacefully to the next life on Tuesday, June 24th, 2014, lovingly surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby; daughter, Robin and her husband Peter Bennett; son Erik and his wife Berenice Juarez; grandchildren Nicole Elizabeth, Jacob William, and Jonovan Paul; mother-in-law Shirley Carroll; sister-in-law Edith Nealeigh; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marcia and Keith Schultz; Jeffrey and Rhonda Schultz, Kaylee and Brody; Allyson Schultz; Jack, Brendan and Ashlynn Carroll, Heather and Kaitie; and friends who were special to him. He was pre-deceased by his father Leo Dunbar, his mother Zelma Scaggs Dunbar, and his brother James Leo Dunbar.

A graduate of Aquinas High School, Columbus, Ohio; he studied engineering at The Ohio State University. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves with an honorable discharge. He loved science. He excelled at problem solving from fixing the first electronic typewriters to advanced computer electronics. He was blessed with gifts of intelligence and thoughtful decision-making capability especially in times of extreme stress.

While at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), he invented the terminal emulator in a Calma graphic design system. He developed a RAID controller fault tolerant disk system for NASA. His skills included outstanding customer service, achieving projects under budget and ahead of deadlines. Following his years at DEC he worked at Advanced Modular Solutions. He retired in 2001.

He enjoyed hobbies and was talented in making clocks, woodworking, building model train layouts, and researching scientific topics. He enjoyed humor and his personality lent itself to it. He possessed impeccable dignity and integrity. Humanity is much better off because of his lifetime legacy. He was kind and generous, chivalrous and caring. He loved coffee, both starting and ending each activity with a cup.

Funeral services will be private; burial will be at a later date. A Memorial Mass to celebrate his life will be held at 10am Wednesday, July 2nd at Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Street, Wallingford, CT. A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be announced in the coming months.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Bill and in memory of his brother, Jim, may be sent to Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. 2000 L St. N.W. Suite 410 Washington, D.C. 20036.
