William Bryant Early, Sr., known to his friends as "Bill", passed away on April 21, 2014 at the age of 90 years.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his children, Theresa and husband Rudy, Bill Jr. and wife Jean, Pam, and his wife of two years, Thelma. He is also remembered by his three grandchildren; Josh, Alison, (Scott) and Zac along with two great grandchildren, Colson and Lynley, and by his sisters, Mildred McCauley and Mary Ann Crowder, and one sister in law Lois Early. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Genevieve, wife of eight years Mary and his parents, Roy and Theresa Early along with three brothers; Clark, George, and Dan Early.
A native of Old Fort, North Carolina, Bill served as postmaster for over 26 years. He also served as Mayor of the town of Old Fort. He enjoyed his service as a volunteer Fireman and Fire Chief for more than 30 years. He was proud to have been a veteran of World War II and served with the Army Air Corp in Italy. Bill was a member of the Old Fort First Baptist Church for more than 83 years; faithfully serving as a deacon and church treasurer.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Old Fort First Baptist Church with the Reverend Coy Jeans and Reverend Ken Morris officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
Burial will follow the services in the family plot at McDowell Memorial Park, Marion, NC.
