William (Bill) C. Elks, Sr. COLUMBIA – Funeral services for William C. Elks, Sr., 86, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Irmo/St.Andrews Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Also, they will be receiving friends at his residence through Friday evening. Mr. Elks was born October 11, 1927 in Grimesland, NC and passed away March 11, 2014. He was the son of the late Guy and Hattie Elks. Bill was affectingly known as "Pop" by his family and friends. COLUMBIA – Funeral services for William C. Elks, Sr., 86, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Irmo/St.Andrews Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Also, they will be receiving friends at his residence through Friday evening.
Mr. Elks was born October 11, 1927 in Grimesland, NC and passed away March 11, 2014. He was the son of the late Guy and Hattie Elks.
Bill was affectingly known as "Pop" by his family and friends. He enlisted in the Navy and served three years. Shortly, after his marriage and starting a family he moved to Columbia.
Mr. Elks worked at GE Credit Corp for a brief time, and then went to Elliott TV & Appliance in Cayce for 20 years. He also worked at Columbia Appliance during the day and Herb's Grill at night. After a brief retirement he decided to go back to work. Mr. Elks then worked at BiLo for 13 years. He had a strong passion for reading and anything to do with the Gamecocks.
Mr. Elks is survived by his four sons; Billy (Cindy), David (Jamie), Mitch (Marie) and James (Cat); four grandchildren, Ashley, Melissa, Derek and Ryan Elks. He is preceded by three sisters and three brothers.
