Dr. William Henry Galloway, 94, passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s on August 23, 2013.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Caroline Verdery Galloway, and by children Kathy and husband Clinton Meyer, Cindy and husband David Goldin, and Woody and wife Leslie Galloway.  He also leaves 9 grandchildren whom he loved and nurtured:  David, Christine, and Katherine Meyer, Will and Michael Goldin, and Rachel, Morgan, Austin, and Grace Galloway.  “Bill” Galloway was born August 8, 1919 in Eclectic, Alabama to Annie Elizabeth (Snider) Galloway and Henry Woodson Galloway. He had three sisters, Annie Laura Phillips, Mary Elizabeth Blount, and Dorothy Nell Fontaine, who preceded him in death. Bill graduated from Emory University then earned his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Georgia.  A veteran of World War II serving in the US Army Medical Corps, Bill returned and practiced general medicine for a short time.  He then completed a fellowship in obstetrics and gynecology and joined the Bartholomew Group at Georgia Baptist Hospital.  It was then that Dr. E. Augustus Verdery, chaplain at Georgia Baptist, introduced his sister Caroline to Bill.  They were married the following year and enjoyed 59 years of loving marriage. Dr. Galloway was a distinguished and caring physician who delivered thousands of babies at Georgia Baptist and Northside Hospitals and mentored medical students from Emory University.  Bill received numerous medical awards and served as President of the Atlanta Ob-Gyn Society.  He gave freely of his time and talent by providing care for indigent patients, participating in local medical clinics, as well as numerous mission projects in Africa and the Caribbean. Christian faith defined Bill’s life.  A Charter member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Bill taught youth Sunday School classes, sang in the choir, served on numerous committees, the diaconate, and as Chairman of the Diaconate. He shared his enjoyment of badminton and tennis with many friends, his love of music with his family and church, his love of laughter and practical jokes with his children and grandchildren, and the importance of education, love of God, and appreciation of the outdoors with all.  The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Wieuca Road Baptist Church, 3626 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, GA 30326.  A memorial service and a celebration of his life will be held at Wieuca Road Baptist Church on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 1 pm. The family will receive visitors before the service at 11:30 am in the Heritage Room.
