Mr. Hays passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Cornerstone Rehab Center in Cook Springs, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Don B. and Katherine Bass Hays; and his infant daughter, Rebecca Joy.
He was born in Smith Grove, Kentucky in 1932. Bill graduated from Cumberland University in 1954 and moved to Pell City where he worked as a Supervisor for Wright Construction Company. He was instrumental in building many of the bridges on Hwy 20 between Pell City and Birmingham. Bill also worked for J.J. Newberry in Birmingham. When the company left the area, he chose to work for SouthTrust Bank, where he was employed for 30 years until his retirement.
Bill was a member of The Club in Birmingham; The Logan Martin Lake Protection Association where he served as Treasurer for a number of years; Habitat for Humanity, Pell City Chapter where he was very active in many building projects; a member of First United Methodist Church where he held many positions of service. Bill served in the Air Force. He loved his rose garden, beautiful home and Alabama Football.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jane; two special Siamese cats, JoJo and Mickey, who loved him dearly; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
