Dr. William James Kilman, 82, of Coppell, Texas, passed away at home on December 10, 2012. Born in 1929 to James Robert Kilman and Margaret Virginia Kilman (née Collins), Bill was married to Bess Margaret McMahon in 1952, and had two daughters, Rebecca Ann and Katherine Margaret.
Bill received his undergraduate degree from TCU in 1952, and his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1955. Bill then specialized in and began to teach radiology, and became an Associate Professor of Radiology at Southwestern Medical Center. He was a dedicated teacher whose residents awarded him Golden Apple Teaching awards year after year. He worked at Southwestern Medical Center for forty years.
Bill's family was the most important thing in his life. He loved taking photographs of his family, or as he called it, "lurking." He was also a woodworker. He made a clock for every room in his home, and kept them chiming every hour.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Bess Margaret Kilman, daughter, Rebecca Ann Houston, and brother, Donald Ray Kilman. He is survived and remembered by his daughter and son-law-, Katherine and David Maguire, brother John Kilman, and grandchildren Rachel and Daniel Maguire.
A short memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Southwestern Medical Center.

I have had the unusual privilege of having Dr Kilman as my GI Radiology teacher when I moved from Zimbabwe in 1997. I have received the news of his passing with the deepest sympathies. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and daughters.

I had the distinct privilege of working and often laughing with this lovely gentleman and scholar affectionately known as "the Killer". His help and expertise in the field of Radiology was invaluable to me and countless others who had studies done and interpreted by him. I miss him badly- but he was an inspiration. With heartfelt sympathy to his family - what a great guy!!!

I worked with Dr. Kilman at Parkland and ate lunch with him and several others for some of those years. He was the definition of the word "gentleman". The world will miss his kindness.

I am very sorry to learn of Dr Kilmans passing. My thoughts , condolences and prayers are with him and his family.
I was fortunate to have gotten to train as a radiology resident under him. The single most prevalant memory I have of him is his incredibly gentle demeanor. He always was supportive of you. He is iconic at UT Southwestern Radiology. A great physician, and an even better person...the world could use more Bill Kilmans

Dr. Kilman was a profound influence on many radiologists and students in the Radiology Department at UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospital. He had the gentlest manner and the most wonderful way of redirecting his students when they were going off track in conferences. His legacy of teaching is a great one, only to be outdone for his legacy of kindness. He will be greatly missed. Thought and prayers to your family.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
Dr. Kilman was one of my professors at Parkland in the Radiology department during my residency years. In fact, he was my first professor on my first day!
I will always have so many fond memories of Dr. Kilman--but none more special than how he ran his noon resident conferences. Whenever the resident he called up to the front to discuss a case was off-base with their observations and thoughts--- and sometimes they were WAY off-base --- he would ALWAYS be kind and sweet and say something to them like, "Well, that is a really good thought, but what do you think about this over here..." or "That's a real good observation and I think you may be right. Do you see anything else worth talking about..."
He was ALWAYS kind and supportive and never critical or discouraging. And certainly to this day, 20 years later, I still perform all my GI exams EXACTLY as he taught me!
I know all the other residents before and after me admired and respected him as well.
How could you not!!
My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time and please know the things he taught me and so many others will go on helping patients for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Mark Meiches, MD
