William A. Knapman, age 80, of Eastpointe, formerly of Roseville and Harrison Township, went home to the Lord after a courageous year-long battle with asbestos-related lung cancer on July 20, 2012. He was born December 4, 1931 in Roseville, Michigan to George and Winifred Knapman.

He was a fourth-generation journeyman plasterer working on major landmark buildings in the Detroit area as well as the Fisher, Dodge and Ford mansions, often repairing, remodeling and restoring plasterwork originally done by his father George. He plied his craft with Service Art Plastering, Detroit Public Schools, and Hudson Construction among others. He was part of the international team of craftsmen working on EPCOT, using his shells on Philadelphia Hall, the Mexican pavilion and the "2,000 year old bridge" outside the pavilion. "It's a Small World" is NOT one of his favorite songs! He was past member and president of Plasterers Local 67 and Painters Local.

He was assistant and Scoutmaster of Troop 95, accompanying his "boys" on a fifty-mile journey of the Appalachian Trail. He was bestowed the honor as an adviser of the Order of the Arrow as an example of Scout Oath and Law in daily living. He's a charter member of the Order of The Fly as one of their top recruiting members. A past member of Patches Squares and Solo Stars square dancing club and Lakeshore Pinochle Club.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sharon, adored grandson Michael Murphy, brother George, sisters Kathryn, Greta and Dorothy. Survived by his children Linda (Robert) Brozovic, Douglas (Kathryn) Knapman, Michele (John) Shea, Lisa (Frank) James, Kristen (Kevin) Koveck; grandchildren Samantha, Michelle, Cody, Bruce, Justin, Lisa Marie and Kelsey; great-grandchild Danius, comfort dog extraordinaire Lothen and countless special others (you know who you are) who were touched and brought into his circle of love and family.

"There's always room for one more!"

Visitation Monday, July 23, 3 – 9 pm, at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores. Funeral services, Tuesday, 11 am, at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church, 27801 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores.
