age 88, passed away on July 21, 2014. 'Bill' was born in Killbuck, Ohio. He loved his hometown and the beauty of Ohio. Bill was a jovial, friendly, and energetic man who never met a stranger, garnering the camaraderie of countless friends, love from family members, and respect from those with whom he worked. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and made the experience on his ship more enjoyable by running the movie projector for the Captain and shipmates. He was in the Pacific and at Tokyo Bay during the signing of the Peace Treaty that ended the war, and he liberated P.O.W. camps which held some of the survivors of the Bataan Death March. When he returned from the war, he took up farming for several years and referred to those years fondly for the rest of his life. His love for the outdoors and gardening never abated: this spring he planted his garden once again. Bill spent most of his life working in the construction industry, and served as supervisor on many commercial and industrial projects including manufacturing plants and bridges in Northeast Ohio, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In retirement, Bill did not slow down. He channeled his enormous curiosity, creativity, and skill toward projects at home, designing and building various additions to his home, and hand-crafting fine wood furniture. Bill was a Freemason of Clinton Lodge #47 F&AM and a 32 degree Mason of the Scottish Rite.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Dianne (Peter) Lawson Strassner; grandchildren, Thomas and Elizabeth; brother, Lloyd Lawson of Downers Grove, Ill.; his fond companion, Dorothy Purdy; nieces, Myrna Shock, Janet Canteberry Mark, Amy Schneider, Barbara Bills; nephews, Ronald Bills, Ben Lawson, Steven King; many other nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Starkey Lawson; first wife, Janet 'Ginger' Mark Lawson; two siblings, Ida Belle Bills and Claude Lawson; and parents, Annabelle and Benjamin Lawson.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday, July 26, 2014. Entombment will follow in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens alongside his loving wife of 40 years, Roberta Starkey Lawson
