William "Bill" Lemke Jr. Crystal Lake-William "Bill" Lemke, Jr., 83, of Crystal Lake died Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock. He was born May 27, 1927, in Chicago to William and Edna (Kuehl) Lemke, Sr. On September 11, 1948, he married LaVerne Schultz in Chicago. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was a former post commander of American Legion Post #171. He worked for many years at LJ Iron Works in Morton Grove until his retirement. He was an usher at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Crystal Lake-William "Bill" Lemke, Jr., 83, of Crystal Lake died Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock.
He was born May 27, 1927, in Chicago to William and Edna (Kuehl) Lemke, Sr. On September 11, 1948, he married LaVerne Schultz in Chicago.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was a former post commander of American Legion Post #171.
He worked for many years at LJ Iron Works in Morton Grove until his retirement. He was an usher at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, LaVerne; his daughters, Joyce Swett-Cavallo, Gail (Tim) Charlton, Jodie (Michael) King and Jill (Robert) Minerly; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard (Annette) Koepke; his brother-in-law, Carl Alhstedt; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Crystal King; his sister, Carol Alhstedt; and his brother, Raymond Lemke.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Friday, February 4, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
Visitation will continue from 11am to the 11:30am prayers on Saturday, February 5, at the funeral home. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at Noon at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
Interment will follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
