WILLIAM N MADDOX JR, "Bill" of Stuart, Florida and Highlands, North Carolina passed away at home on Friday, April 11, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1932 to Lois and William N Maddox in Birmingham Alabama. Bill graduated from Duke University in 1954 and upon graduation was commissioned as Lieutenant JG in US Navy where he served 2 years. After his naval service, he returned to Utica, New York where he worked for General Electric for 10 years. Bill then moved to Sarasota, Florida and started a construction company. WILLIAM N MADDOX JR, "Bill" of Stuart, Florida and Highlands, North Carolina passed away at home on Friday, April 11, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1932 to Lois and William N Maddox in Birmingham Alabama.
Bill graduated from Duke University in 1954 and upon graduation was commissioned as Lieutenant JG in US Navy where he served 2 years.
After his naval service, he returned to Utica, New York where he worked for General Electric for 10 years. Bill then moved to Sarasota, Florida and started a construction company. Later he moved to Stuart where he developed and built Indian River Plantation. Bill served on the boards of Martin Memorial Hospital and 1st National Bank in Stuart Florida.
He was an avid sportsman and was a member of and served as president of Shikar Safari Club International. His other passions were aviation, golf, snow skiing and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan Winchester Maddox; son, William Notley Maddox IV; daughter, Christine Maddox Claunch; daughter, Pam Maddox Cesnik; sister, Lois Maddox McHugh, and grandchildren, William R Claunch, Samual M Claunch, Casie K Claunch and Haley A Claunch.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home in Stuart Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill's honor may be made to Indian Riverkeeper, P. O. Box 1812 Jensen Beach Florida 34958.
