William "Dale" Mathis, also known as "Footsie", 93, of Nashville passed away August 14 at his home. Dale was born February 5, 1921 in Brown County the son of William & Mary Ann (McLary) Mathis. They preceded him in death. Dale served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. On September 13, 1947 he married Hilda Ann "Betty" Bond in Helmsburg, she survives in Nashville. He was a graduate of Indiana University & member of IU Alumni Association. Dale was a retired teacher. Dale served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. On September 13, 1947 he married Hilda Ann "Betty" Bond in Helmsburg, she survives in Nashville. He was a graduate of Indiana University & member of IU Alumni Association. Dale was a retired teacher. He was a member of the Nashville Christian Church, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, & Brown County Lions Club. Dale was instrumental in bringing Little League Baseball to Brown County in the early 1960's.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, August 21 at 11:00AM at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, with Rev. L.D. Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 20 from 4:00PM-8:00PM.
Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Betty Mathis, Nashville, daughter, Joyce (Mike) Boulton, Bloomington, son, John (Amanda) Mathis, Nashville, grandchildren, Melissa Cordon, Bloomington, Matthew (Lara) Boulton, Indianapolis, Nathan Mathis, Nashville, Eliza (Jeb) Brester, Nashville, & great grandchildren, Avery& Ella Cordon, & Emilia Cordon-Cox, Andrew & William Boulton, Olivia & Sophia Mathis, & Kirby Brester, & sister, Mary Jane Weisman.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, William & Mary Ann Mathis, brothers, Harry, Ray, Sam, Richard, & Maurice Mathis, & sisters, Alpha Sipes, Laura Keaton, Eudora Steinke, & Olive Steinke.
