On Sunday January 19, 2014 our family lost one of our hero's...William Andrew McCaughey, aka "Andy".
He left a wonderful legacy through his children, Drew McCaughey, Brad McCaughey, and Michelle McCaughey-Outman, Daughter-In-Law Michelle McCaughey, Son-In-Law Kevin Outman, as well as through his grandchildren Braidy McCaughey-Outman, Benjamin Outman, Brock Outman, Tyler McCaughey, Dylan McCaughey, and Ryan McCaughey.
As well as all his Canadian relatives - sister Rita Ross brother in law's Len Ross and Keith Armstrong and his nieces and nephews who simply referred to him as Unc - Donna, Jan, Steve, Eddie, Lisa and Denise.
Andy was born in Orillia, Ontario September 8, 1931. He lettered in multiple sports in high school and college. In 1961 he and his wife Sheila and son Andrew Stewart moved to Ann Arbor, MI. where he graduated from University of Michigan Law School. It was during this time that he developed his life-long passion for University of Michigan sports.
In the late 1970's he moved to Ruckersville, VA. where he worked for the National Legal Research Group in Charlottesville, VA. This is where Andy developed his passion for being on a golf course as often as possible.
Andy's golf buddies and colleagues often lamented the fact that he had an uncanny ability around the greens and would often pick their pockets with his chip ins, up and downs and long putts.
In 2003 he moved to Phoenix, AZ. to retire and help Brad and Michelle raise their growing family. He stayed very busy over the last 10 years helping Brad with his real estate business as well as helping to raise their three kids.
The last eight months for Andy were challenging to say the least, but he gave it all he could to fight the battle to stay with us. Unfortunately his body could no longer keep it up.
Andy was a leader by example of how to live a rewarding and fulfilling life and those lessons will never be forgotten by everyone that he came in contact with. Andy will be with us forever, in our hearts and soul. Anyone that came in contact with Andy will tell you he just drew you with his magnetic personality. He particularly enjoyed sitting around having philosophical conversations.
He was surrounded by his family during his peaceful transition at 11:20 am MST. and we are extremely grateful that we were able to be there with him.
We love you and will miss you dearly Andy... Go Blue!
