William Thomas McKay died on November 9, 2009, one day before his 42nd birthday.

Bill was born on November 10, 1967, in Camden, New Jersey, the son of William James McKay and Margaret Black McKay. The family traveled frequently before settling in Charlotte, North Carolina, where Bill attended East Mecklenburg High School and Central Piedmont Community College. As a youth, he was a gifted graphic artist and an active member of the local Boy Scout Troop; as a young man, Bill became a skilled craftsman and worked in the printing industry for many years. Most recently, he worked at the Whole Foods Market at Ridgewood Shopping Center in Raleigh.

Bill met his fiancée, Thatoubanh Inthisane, in 1995, when they began to build their life together. He enjoyed music, reading, sports, camping and hiking, golfing, and riding his motorcycle. A devoted animal lover, he was also a fan of the Duke Blue Devils and the New York Yankees. Bill lived life out loud as a merry prankster and independent thinker, and had a unique gift for drawing people from all walks of life into his tightly knit circle of friends. He will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to know and be cared for by him.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Wynne Richmond McKay, of Southport; his fiancée, of Wake Forest; his sister, Diane Lynn McKay, of Princeton, New Jersey; two half-sisters, Patricia McKay of Denville, New Jersey and Jenifer Coleman of Cosby, Tennessee; two nephews, Danu and Rainey Buscher, and their families; and many other beloved family members and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 14, at the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary's Street in Raleigh. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 pm at the funeral home to celebrate Bill's life.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or another animal rescue group of choice.
