On December 15, 2012, William G. O'Mara, a retired CEO of Regional Management, Inc., died of complications of dementia, at Renaissance Gardens, Catonsville, MD at the age of 90.
Born on January 4, 1922, he was the son of William Francis O'Mara and Gertrude R. Wetzler. Bill was raised on Delray Ave. in Catonsville, attended St. Mark's Catholic School and graduated from Calvert Hall College in 1940. In 1942 Bill went into the Navy and served for four years. During that time he attended Northwest University, Chicago, IL. Bill married his wife Kathryn Fortin in 1946. She passed away in 1999. He moved into Charlestown Retirement Community in 2000. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church where he served on the parish council. He loved playing golf with his nephews at Rolling Road Country Club where he was a member. He enjoyed bocce ball, dancing, music, gardening and swimming. He is survived by his long time loving companion Jeanne Stephens, with whom he enjoyed these activities.
Mr. O'Mara was predeceased by three sisters, Katherine Rea, Agnes Larrick, and Gertrude O'Farrell and one brother Paul. Also survived by many Larrick, Rea, and O'Farrell nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at Sterling Ashton Schwab Witzke Funeral Home of Catonsville, Inc., 1630 Edmondson Ave., Catonsville, MD on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9pm. A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, MD 21228 on Thursday at 10am, where guests are welcome to visit at 9:30am.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Calvert Hall College for The Brother E. James Scholarship, 8102 Lasalle Rd., Towson, MD 21286. Mr. O'Mara had donated generously to the Calvert Hall Scholarship fund that enabled many young men to attend who couldn't have otherwise.
