Obituary

William passed away on May 3, 2014 due to Kidney Failure. He was able to watch one of his favorite horse racing events - The Kentucky Derby - with his family prior to passing. William was born in Egg Harbor, New Jersey on February 7, 1930 to Rose Atz Schneider and Victor Schneider. William attended Egg Harbor High School graduating in 1948. He was a three sport letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He was in the Navy for four years at which time he was stationed in Guam and then later Astoria. William passed away on May 3, 2014 due to Kidney Failure. He was able to watch one of his favorite horse racing events - The Kentucky Derby - with his family prior to passing. William was born in Egg Harbor, New Jersey on February 7, 1930 to Rose Atz Schneider and Victor Schneider. William attended Egg Harbor High School graduating in 1948. He was a three sport letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He was in the Navy for four years at which time he was stationed in Guam and then later Astoria. His brother Joe and Sister-in-law Nell lived in Portland as well. While in Portland on weekends, he met Gwendolyn Ball and they were married on May 15, 1954 and later divorced 1979. They lived for a while in Astoria, then moved to Portland. Will lived in Southeast Portland for almost sixty years. After his discharge from the Navy, William worked as a store keeper for Iron Fireman which eventually became Boeing of Portland. He retired from Boeing of Portland after 37 years of service in 1992. Will enjoyed attending dog and horseracing events, trips to Reno and Chinook Winds, visiting with his family (especially with his older brother Joe), and watching his grandchildren in sporting events such as wrestling, football, lacrosse, and cross county. He loved attending Mariners games, especially when they played the Boston Red Sox, and he avidly followed college and professional sports such as basketball, football, and golf. He owned a few race horses - Miss Grey Chiffon and others and many others, he enjoyed watching them run. He also loved the dog races, especially a dog named Ace Lucky Lady. Will was a great Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, and Brother, Will is survived by his daughter, Diana Schneider-Barnes (Richard Barnes), Portland; his son, Ron Schneider (Dawn White Schneider), Carson, Washington; his grandchildren - Jordon Schneider, Joshua Schneider, and Jacob Schneider (Carson, Washington) and Megan Barnes (Portland); his brother Joe Schneider, (Portland), his brother Carl Schneider, (Egg Harbor, N.J); sister-in-law Dolly Schneider (Mays Landing, NJ) and his many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Victor Schneider (Mayslanding, NJ), Brother Richard Schneider (Hialeah, FL) his sister's in laws Nell Schneider and Alice Schneider and his nephew Victor Schneider JR. (Mayslanding, NJ). The family would like to thank the Portland Adventist Hospitalist and nurses for the care that our father received in his last days. Especially doctors Uffington and Nyonator and Nurses Penny and Morgan. Donations can be made in Will's name to Greyhound Pet Adoption Northwest or Adventist Medical Center Foundation. There will be a Memorial Service held at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
