William Stacy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 3, 2013.

Mr. William "Bill" Stacy, 64, of Marietta, GA passed away February 2, 2013. He was born in Winchester, KY on May 20, 1948 to the late Helen and William Q. Stacy. He graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Engineering in 1970, which is where he met his wife, Pat.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Patricia "Pat" Stacy; daughter, Rebecca Nelson and her husband Spencer; grandchildren Carter and Allison Nelson and a large extended family and many friends. Bill was a loving husband, wonderful father and adoring granddaddy.
Since his childhood, Bill was a committed Christian and servant of God. He was an active member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, led the Men's Ensemble and was a member of the choir. Because of his deep faith, he supported innumerable ministries and missions around the world. A man filled with faith, creativity and many life accomplishments, he was never found boasting. An extremely ethical business man, Bill endowed an Engineering Ethics Education Series at the University of Kentucky in 2008. Bill enjoyed a rewarding 37 year career with BellSouth/AT&T, retiring as CIO/Vice President of Telecommunications Business Markets.
Bill was always reading, learning, growing and teaching. He was an avid wood worker and collector of antique tools; and very much loved the ocean and beach.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at noon in the sanctuary of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00-8:00pm at H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Bill's memory please make contributions to: the "Right From the Heart Ministries" at 1507 Johnson Ferry Road Suite 100, Marietta, GA 30062, www.rightfromtheheart.org; or the Worship and Arts ministry at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Rd Marietta, GA 30068, www.johnsonferry.org.

Pat,
The service was absolutely the most wonderful celebration of Bill's life I could ever imagine. I know he was looking down and singing and rejoicing with every note that was sung and every word that was spoken.
He is an amazing example of a life well lived. Blessings to you, Rebecca, and the rest of your precious family.

Bill always went out of his way to help others at BellSouth be able to share his deep understanding of the technical issues we needed to explain to decision makers in Washington. His sharing of time and knowledge will be long remembered. I join the other BellSouth family members mourning his passing. Bill McCloskey - BellSouth DC - retired

Dear Pat,
Bill's service was wonderful. So much an expression of his life: laughter, tears of joy, beautiful music and a profound, inspiring message to all of us. God puts people in our paths to lead us, teach us, comfort, love and support us. Bill did that and so much more for me, my family and for so many others. Our lives are far richer for having enjoyed the honor of calling Bill our friend. Our prayers are with you and your family during this trying time but we know with certainty that God's love will strengthen and sustain you. Please let us know if we can help in any way.

I dearly loved Bill and am a better person having known him. I was his Executive Assistant at BellSouth for many years. He was one of the most Godly, intelligent, kind men with integrity that I have ever known. I remember when Bill's grandson was born, he had a picture frame in his office of Carter and when you press the button, Carter would say..."I LOVE YOU GRANDADDY". Bill told me that "you love your children, but you are "in LOVE" with your grandchildren." Pat and Rebekka and grandchildren, please know I am praying for you. Bill is in heaven singing.

Bill was a warm, accessible leader and a mentor to many. He always took time to teach others who were curious enough to ask. Intelligent, friendly, humble, talented, and a "gentle giant" at BellSouth, there was rarely a conversation that family and/or faith weren't mentioned. I feel so blessed to have known Bill. Our prayers are with you, Pat, and your dear family.
