William Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2013.

William "Bill" Taylor, Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2013 at Rex Hospital. He was born on June 11, 1933, in Alexandria, LA, beloved son of the late William Taylor, Sr. and Bessie Burkhart Taylor.

Bill served in the U.S. Army, from 1953-1955 serving in Korea as a Medical Sergeant. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 1958. He taught school in Canton, N.C. and high school in Fuquay-Varina, N.C. He left teaching and later worked in accounting for Phillips Petroleum and retired from N.C. Products.

Bill was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church for over 48 years. He enjoyed working with the many children and teaching Sunday School Class. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, working outdoors, studying his Bible, reading and working cross-word puzzles. Bill was a humble, honest man with a good sense of humor and the highest level of integrity.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 54 years, Billie Taylor; his sons, Larry Taylor (JoAnn) and James Taylor; his grandchildren, Sarah Bailey (Lee), Kristina Taylor (fiancé, David Ashworth) and Alisha Taylor; his precious great-granddaughters, Hayleigh and Rayna; and his mother-in-law, Beulah Peek. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy Ann Swainey.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday, May 6, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm, at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 7, at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Fork Rd., Raleigh, with Dr. Jeff Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, with military honors.

Bill's family would like to extend special thanks to Laura and the staff in the CCU at Rex Hospital.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
I met Bill in junior high school. We went to separate high schools, served in the army at about the same time, and graduated from Western Carolina the same year. Our paths have not crossed much over the years, but I remember Bill as a fine, caring Christian.
Grace and peace, Mark Sumner, Jr.
