Lt. Col. Williamson ("Wally") Newell Wallace Jr., 76, of Oak Island passed away on June 8, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mr. Wallace was born July 19, 1938, in Mooresville, North Carolina, the son of the late Williamson Newell Wallace Sr. and Hazel Houston Wallace. He was raised in Mooresville and went on to become a highly decorated veteran in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He served in the Army for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Wallace was a member of Oak Island Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ursel Wallace; a son, Billy Wallace and wife Nicola of Holland, Michigan; a daughter, Susan Carter and husband Walter of China Grove, North Carolina; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 in the Sea Lawn Memorial Park in Hampstead with Reverend Walter Taylor officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Island Presbyterian Church, 1503 East Oak Island Dr., Oak Island, NC 28465.

Ursel, how very sorry I am to hear of Wally's death. I enjoyed all the time I spent with him solving all the problems of the world on neighboring treadmills. He always had a smile for me and I will always have kind thoughts of him. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

A viet nam vet, a great scouter a fun type person a family man. There is not enough paper to write about him. we will all miss him, however we now he is in heaven. I am praying for you
