Willie Darrell Behrend, 87, of Smithville, passed away on February 17, 2013 surrounded by family. Darrell was born May 23, 1925 to Willie Charles and Lola Irene Barker Behrend in McDade, Texas. After attending school in McDade he joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served on the USS Casablanca in the Southern Pacific. Later he met Bernice Irene Tramp. They were married on February 21, 1948. Darrell was a fireman at Camp Gary in San Marcos. He was also a member of the Smithville Honor Guard, the American Legion and was a Master Mason. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and sister, Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; brother, Guy (Carol) Wolf of Pipe Creek; children, Donna (Daniel) Kadlecek, Dale Behrend and friend Karol, Nancy (Bill) Vydrzal; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family will host a visitation on Tuesday, February 19, from 6-8pm at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, at 11am at Marrs-Jones with burial to follow at McDade Cemetery.
