Wilma Jordan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 1, 2013.

Wilma Jean Burris was born on September 15, 1926, in Huntington, Texas. Having met while attending rival high schools (Lufkin and Huntington), she fell in love and married Milton Reginald Jordan on May 3, 1947. Jean and her adoring husband Milt were married for 65 years. She was a resident of Bealaire from 1959 to 2012.

Jean attended high school in Huntington, Texas. She received her Associate of Arts degree from the University of Houston in 1946. She also received her R.N. degree from the Methodist Hospital, U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps, in 1946. She was awarded a scholarship for post-graduate study at Washington University, Barnes Hospital, from 1946-1947. Jean also received her B.S. in nursing from the Dominican College in August 1964, while simultaneously raising three sons and being married to a district manager Wireco Rope Incorporated. She continued her studies at Sam Houston State University and Texas Woman's University.

Jean began her nursing career at Methodist Hospital as an OR and floor nurse. She worked short stints as a public health staff nurse for Nueces County and for the City of Houston. She also worked as a nurse for a pediatrician in Midland, Texas, where she treated George W. Bush. At the end of her nursing career, Jean served as a school nurse at Bealaire Highschool in the 60's, before working at the M.C. Williams Middle School where she retired in 1989. She remained always a nurse. She was proud of her nursing abilities and career, and her family is extremely proud of her accomplishments.

Wilma Jean Jordan is survived by her three sons and their spouses; Charles and Jeanette Jordan, Brent and Patty Jordan, and Steve and Carol Jordan. Also surviving her are her eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren, whom she loved to spoil. Her grandchildren and their spouses, Josh and Shelley Jordan, Amanda Jordan, Nicole Jordan and Shaun Azimi, John and Allison Jordan, Rebecca and Robert Shores, Christopher and Callie Jordan, Michael Jordan, and Sam Jordan will miss MeMaw/Mimi and her holiday coconut cream and chocolate cream pies. Her great grandchildren; Casey Jordan, Savannah Jordan, Easton Jordan, Leighton Jordan, and Ezra Jordan.

Jean Jordan was a consummate bridge player, skilled crossword puzzle solver, and a challenging opponent in the highly competitive family games of 42. She was extremely proud of her three sons and their accomplishments, and she deeply loved and was a supportive wife to her adoring and doting husband Milt who passed away on January 9, 2013. Both husband and wife are Christians who now walk arm in arm with Jesus.

A memorial service honoring the life of Wilma Jean Burris Jordan will be held at Metcalf Funeral Home, Conroe, Texas, on Saturday, February 9, 2013; visitation will begin at noon, with a service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Private burial will follow on February 10 in Lufkin, Texas.

This is for Charles Jordan. Sharon just informed me of the passing of your mother, only a short time after the passing of your father, and I want to express how very sorry I am for you and your family. I told Sharon your parents must have been very very special to raise such a wonderful person as yourself (I know that makes you very uncomfortable, but it is true).

My deepest condolences to you and your family.
