Wilmen "Chuck" Rabalais was born September 29, 1920 in Plaucheville, La. in Avoyelles Parish. He was raised and schooled in Simmesport, La. where he earned a scholarship to LSU for his athletic abilities in pole vaulting. Wilmen was the last survivor of the Whitney and Cecile Rabalais family of seven children. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Kathryn Godwin Rabalais and four children, Carolyn Rabalais Day and husband John W. Day, Jr. of Zachary, Brenda Rabalais Breland Wright and husband Kirk Wright of Austin, TX, John "Dut" Rabalais and fiancee' Renee Stevenson of Zachary, and Robinell Rabalais Brasseaux of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Jason Day and wife Heather of Baton Rouge, Alana Y. Rabalais Breland of Round Rock, TX, Amber Marie Brasseaux of Baton Rouge; three great-grandchildren, DeWayne A. Johnson of Round Rock, TX, Sunny Sonrisa Day and Daisy Eudora Day of Baton Rouge, and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilmen was a devout Catholic, loyal husband, devoted Daddy, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. He was also a hard worker and provider and caring, fun-loving friend. After years of being a boiler maker for Chicago Bridge and Iron, he was employed by the US Postal Service and employed by LSU at the Physical Plant where he worked for 22 years, retiring as Superintendent in 1986. Wilmen loved the "Tigers" and attended and supported the team for many years. He especially enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets over Lake Verrett, its coastal wildlife, beautiful environment and fishing. His motto was "It doesn't get any better than this." Nothing made him happier than a family gathering. Wilmen also found and enjoyed many friends through his involvement with UCT. His passion for "Cajun cooking" led him to be a competitive jambalaya cook. "Ça c'est Bon!" He enjoyed his weekends after retirement with his friends and family on Lake Verrett where he owned a camp. He enjoyed being home on his six-and-a -half acre home of 55 years in Southeast Baton Rouge. He will be missed by family and friends.
