I'm saddened to only now learn of Mr. Sogg's passing. I would never have called him Wilton, as I knew him when I was a messenger and docket clerk at his law firm in the 80's. It was fairly formal, yet he was always a gracious person to work for, and remember Mr. Sogg fondly. Always very warm, friendly and genuinely interested in what I was studying in college, asking me where I hoped to go in a career one day, offering his opinions but never heavy handed. He had a big grand way of announcing himself, which I can still hear today ... "WILTon Sogg!!" You cannot forget how he introduced himself. After I started my career in radio advertising he called me one day and asked if he could take me to lunch. It was at the Union Club. I had never set foot inside before, and was truly humbled that he would treat me so professionally. He mainly wanted to tap my knowledge of radio as a business as an area he might explore for his practice (he told great stories of his WHK days and The Beatles!). I still think of him often and his kind and generous heart. He is one of those influences that are made on a young college kid and remain for life. Gold Bless you, Wilton! (I mean, "Mr. Sogg")

Hi Nancy: In 1986, as a young law clerk, Will hired me to give him riding lessons. He was determined to hunt, was an adult beginner, but was absolutely determined and fearless. I enjoyed his company, and was very happy to see him achieve his equestrian goals. He was a lovely man, and I am so sorry for your loss. Best regards,

I only remember Wilton Sogg by having spoken with him once or twice when he was a mentor to Marc Rossen, my boss at the time, years ago. Then, years after, I took a position with McCarthy Lebit for a short time. I never met Wilton there but I understood from a friend who worked at MLCL that she and another gal sometimes took a brisk walk with Wilton during lunch breaks. Jan was astounded at how many people said hello and stopped to chat with him on Cleveland streets. It appeared, she said, as if everyone seemed to know and genuinely like him. I hope this may bring some comfort for you to know that he still lives on in the memories of people who knew him. The ancient Egyptians believed that part of a person's soul was his name, and for as long as his name was spoken, his soul would live forever. I think that's true. Blessed be you all. Joanna

A number of yrs ago, I interviewed with Mr. Sogg. He broke out the John Phillip Sousa marches right there in his office and actually marched. Certainly left an impression, a very hysterical one, but, indeed, an impression.

Wilton and I worked together at Guren Merritt Sogg and Cohen for 8 years and continued our friendship after that. We co counseled on some of the most interesting cases and won our share. He was a champion of women practicing law which was unique in those days. I shall cherish his memory and offer the family my sincerest condolences.
