Winnie Louise Escue Cowley Smith, 92, passed away Saturday morning, May 12, 2012, at a local nursing home. She was born April 26, 1920 in Robert Lee, Texas to John Henry Escue, Sr. and Iber Lee Modgling. She was the oldest of five children.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Robert Lee Cemetery in Robert Lee. JT Tucker of Odyssey Hospice will officiate. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home.
Winnie married Luther E. (Jack) Cowley on March 4, 1940 in Robert Lee, Texas and they lived there the remainder of their days. Jack passed away in September, 1981. Winnie married Perry Smith in 1985 and he passed away in 1987.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Jack and Perry, her son Bobby, her granddaughter, Rachel, and
her brothers John and Irven.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Brenda and Al LaPier of San Angelo and her children Lonny Allen and wife Julie of Ohio and Shona Ramos of San Angelo; Bobby's children Robert Cowley and his wife Bridgett of Corpus Christi and Darrell Cowley of San Antonio. She is also survived by sisters: Kayo Higgins of San Angelo and Anna and Alden Kosel of Ohio; a sister in-law Dale Fields of Robert Lee; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and friends.
