Mr. Winston "Wink" Sherwood Craun, 90, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016 at his home in Mt. Sidney. He had been in declining health the past two years.
He was born October 3, 1925 in Weyers Cave, VA and was the son of the late Orie Claude Craun Sr. and Hattie Mace Craun.

The Weyers Cave and Mt. Sidney communities were considered his home for the majority of his life. He attended Weyers Cave Elementary and Augusta Military Academy.

On June 6, 1946 he married the former Jada Annamae Hamilton who preceded him in death on March 25, 1999.
He was a WWII Disabled Army Veteran. After returning from the military, he and his brother owned and operated Craun Brothers Gas Station on US Rt. 11 for several years. In addition to operating the filling station, he repaired t.v.'s, heating and air conditioners, mechanical engines and electrical work. In 1984, after 30 years of employment, Wink retired from American Safety Razor, where he was a millwright. He taught himself to play the organ and how to use a computer.

As a member of Mt. Sidney United Methodist church for 55 years, he served as head of Trustees and various other committees. He was a public servant who delivered "meals on wheels", C.B. 11 Club which helped with disasters, emergencies and the rescue of lost children.

Mr. Craun is survived by his daughter, Dianne Craun Streiff and husband, Mark A.; a granddaughter, Bridgett S. Crawford and husband, Darold G.; a grandson, M. Anthony Streiff II; two great-granddaughters, Jada Paige and Mackenzie Elizabeth Crawford, all of Mt. Sidney. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by three brothers, George E., Nelson E., O.C. (Jr.) Craun; and one sister, Winifred Craun Christian Swink.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave or anytime at the residence.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:30 pm, Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Mt. Sidney United Methodist Church with Pastor Russell Heinrich and Rev. Elinor Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family invites friends to a meal after the services at Mt. Sidney United Methodist Church.

The family has requested no flowers and that contributions be made to Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 215

Dear Diane and family,

We were so sorry about the passing of "Wink". We were blessed to know him when our brother-in-law/uncle Lee married Winnie. He was so very kind and helpful to Lee and Winnie. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
