Woodrow "Woody" Staman has taken his final flight at the age of 99, on October 19th, 2013.

He is survived by his wife and constant companion, Doris. Also surviving is one son, Donnie Lee Staman, step-son Forrest (Karin) Duddles, step-daughters Heather (Andrew) Glucklich, and Norma Hannum Hare, eight step-grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by wife Agnes Hannum Staman, and step-son Dewey Hannum, brother Harry (Mae) Staman, and sisters Leone (Alfred) Sheets, and Ruth (Manuel) Farmer.

Woody retired from the Operating Engineers Union Number 12 in an earlier year, finally retiring from the Federal Aviation Administration at the age of 65. He was then designated by the FAA to administer flight exams. He performed this duty until 82 years of age, but continued flying until he was 89 years old. His love for flying started with a plane ride at the age of 15. He went on to serve in the Air Force during World War II, flew for Seaboard & Western Airline, completing his career with the FAA. During short interruptions in his flying career, he was a crane operator at the San Pedro Island Shipyard, and also operated heavy grading equipment.

In addition to flying, his hobbies were amateur radio, motorcycles, race cars, and bicycling.
He loved his son and step-children and the children cared deeply for him. They expressed deep
admiration for him as a model husband and father.

At his request, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donating to Arbor Hospice, 2366 Oak Valley Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48103 or a hospice of your choice.

Memorial services will be held at
Waterloo Village United Methodist Church,
8110 Washington St., Grass Lake, MI 49240,
on Thursday, October 24th, 2013
with visitation at 12:00 and services at 1:00 p.m.
