Rev. Fr. Yolando "Bong" D. Acido, MSC, age 56, who was a resident of South Jordan, Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, CA. He was born in the Philippines to Bienvenido and Leonila Acido, both deceased. Prior to priesthood, Fr. Bong graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting and served as an accountant in PNOC, Philippine National Oil Company and served the same position in NIA, National Irrigation Administration in the Philippines. Raised devout Catholic, he pursued his interest in priesthood and became an alumna of Maryhill School of Theology. In 1992, he was ordained and became a Catholic priest in the town of Tago, Surigao Del Sur, Philippines, where his mother was born. Since then, Fr. Bong has truly devoted in serving the Lord, his church and the communities.
To him, his community is his family.

All who knew him would agree that Fr. Bong was a pillar of the community. He's been cited for his objectivity, numerous achievements, exceptional leadership, dependability and the drive to help specific individuals in need and to move everyone to higher things. He inspires and loudly proclaims his vision of a better way. Fr. Bong did his best to ensure that his family, friends, loved ones, co-workers, and everyone whose life he touched were given the chance to become a better person.
He will be laid to rest back home in the Philippines.

There will be 9 consecutive masses offered in Fr. Bong's name at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido, CA starting July 21, 2012 where he used to serve as associate pastor/pastor few years back.

"My heartfelt sympathy to the family of Fr. Bong. I had the opportunity to meet Fr. Bong several times through mutual friends in Salt Lake when i visit them...." Raquel Sipangan (San Jose, CA)
