Vassalboro- Ruth A. Priest, 91, went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 18, 2011; with her long-time companion John Cardia, friends; Christine O'Rourke and Mary Vannah by her side. She was born in the Village of North Vassalboro on June 22, 1920. The daughter of the late George and Myrtle Priest.
She was a member of the North Vassalboro Baptist Church all of her life. A member of the North Vassalboro Friendly Club and the Vassalboro Historical Society.
Ruth helped her parents grow and harvest vegetables and tend to their herd of dairy cows and delivered milk in her horse and cart. She worked in the American Woolen Mill located in the village of North Vassalboro, Lockweed & Dutchess Textile Mill in Waterville, Wyndotte Worsted Textile Mill at Head of Falls in Waterville, the Fairfield Woolen Mill, Halifax Chicken Plant in Winslow, and Hathaway Shirt Factory and retired at 70 years of age in 1990.
Ruth had a passion for cooking and a love for people. She enjoyed flower gardening and each year should say "this is my last year" but she would plant even more flowers the following year. Ruth also tried planting a vegetable garden for a few years. She started seeing a new world for her from 1998-2003. She began taking trips to Canada with her companion John Cardia and friends Jerry and Mary Vannah. First she traveled by a van; staying in hotels and motels, then 2000 she traveled in style, camping in a travel trailer. She traveled to Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick Canada and to many other towns and cities.
Ruth is survived by many cousins; Norman and Joyce Richmond, Susan Grenier, Patti Gagne, Ellen Richard, Caroline Smith, Sandra Smith and Sally Pratt, Roberta Curtis Yeaton and many good friends.

A funeral service will be held at the North Vassalboro Baptist Church on Friday, October 21, at 11 am, committal to follow at Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent in Ruth's memory to the North Vassalboro Baptist Church 996 Main St. Vassalboro, ME 04989.

We were saddemed by Ruth's death amd offer condolences to her family and friends. My mother, Mary Poulin, grew up with Ruth and considered her to be like a sister.

We will dearly miss seeing Ruth sitting on her porch when we go for our daily walks with our little dog Skeeter and the grandchildren who would always wave to Ruth and John. May you rest in peace Ruth.
