Dagmawie Andarge Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 19, 2011.

Our beloved Dagmawie was welcomed into the world by his adoring parents and sister in Arlington, Virginia where he was raised until the age of five. Daggi was always known as a happy child, ready to play and laugh with everyone. He later relocated with his family to Central Virginia and completed a portion of his primary education at Saint Joseph's School. Daggi had a passion for theatre that flourished as he pursued his high school education at Appomattox Regional Governor's School for the Arts and Technology in Petersburg, VA. Here, he excelled in his craft, lending his talents to many stage productions whether center stage or behind the scenes and was well loved by his teachers and classmates, but he didn't stop there. He continued on in hopes of achieving a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a concentration in World Cinema and a minor in Italian at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA; he was set to earn his degree in May 2012.

Our dearest Daggiye is survived by his father, Andarge Yirga, mother, Samia Senait Raimondi, sister, Ida and soulmate, Allison, as well as a large, close-knit extended family filled with uncles, aunts and cousins who loved him dearly.
His laugh was infectious, his charisma unparalleled. Daggi exuded a genuine "come as you are" persona that made it so easy for everyone to look to him for uplifting and true acceptance. He was never afraid to be himself. To the beat of his own drum, he marched confidently through life. Music and movies were more than art forms to Daggi. They were the ways he appreciated and related to the world. Daggi's kind spirit and comedic genius will forever light up the darkness.

He will be laid to rest in his hometown, Arlington, Virginia at the Columbia Garden's Cemetery: 3411 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington, Va after the funeral service which will be held at Arlington Funeral Home. 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA. Service starts at 11:00 AM sharp.

**Respects can be paid at the Ethiopian Community Center 901 South Highland Street, Arlington, Virginia, where his family will be after the burial.

There is not enough words in the world to express how much Daggi will be missed. I remember him at Saint Joseph School. His spirit would always light up a room and his smile would always turn your day around. He was funny, sweet and intellegent. When I attended ARGS, no matter when he would come to visit he always spoke or said kind words. Daggi , I will miss you very much! My prayers are with your family through this hard time.

Dear Senu and Andi, there is nothing that makes you empty than the loss of a beloved child. Dagi was the most precious young man not just to his parents but to all that knew him. His loss leaves emptiness in our lives and he will be missed terribly. We can only say "I am sorry" for your loss, but you are the one that will continue to feel the pain and sorrow for times to come. For that I ask God to give you the strength to bear the pain and the wisdom to manage it. Love you always, Asmare and family; Chester, VA.

The last time I enjoyed the Daggi's company was in 2002, at an ARGS basketball game. Although time and distance have prevented additional memories from forming, I cannot forget his perpetual optimism that truly defined his character. I give my condolences; I cannot understand what your family is enduring; however, his spirit will live on among his friends and family.

Daggi was one of the few people who gave me hope for humanity, and there is not a better, more genuine man out there than Daggi. My love and thoughts go to his family, and I know his soul is out there somewhere smiling down down and encouraging all of us to be better people. Daggi knew something greater than what we know and can comprehend today, I'm almost positive of it.

I had the pleasure of knowing Daggi since 2004 at ARGS. We grew very close especially during our Senior year. So close that we were suitemates in college. I remember going out with him on my first night in the dorms, and he already knew so many people, and they knew him. Daggi was the guy that everyone remembered. I never met anyone who spoke ill of him. He was a fantastic friend and person, and i miss him dearly.
